Delete Your Roost Account
This page describes how to delete your Roost account and the data associated with it. Roost is operated by Good Egg LLC, a Virginia limited liability company. You can request deletion at any time, from inside the app or by email — no login is required to read these instructions.
Option 1: Delete from inside the app (recommended)
- Open Roost and go to Settings.
- Scroll to Account and tap Delete Account.
- Confirm the deletion when prompted.
Your account is scheduled for deletion immediately. Most data is removed within 30 days. You can cancel a pending deletion by signing back in before processing completes.
Option 2: Email a deletion request
If you no longer have access to the app — for example, you've uninstalled it or lost the device — email privacy@roostsocial.app from the email address tied to your account and ask us to delete it. We may ask you to confirm your identity before processing the request. We'll complete deletion within 30 days (or sooner where required by law).
What gets deleted
When you delete your account, the following data is removed:
- Your profile (name, username, avatar, email tied to your account).
- Authentication records linking your Apple or Google sign-in to Roost.
- Messages you sent that haven't yet been delivered to another user.
- Your pigeon collection, stats, and Virtual Items.
- Your friend connections, blocked-user lists, and friendship records.
- Your GPS location history and city-level location records.
- Your in-app privacy settings and notification preferences.
What is retained, and why
A small amount of data is retained after account deletion, either for a short technical window or because the law requires us to keep it:
- Encrypted backups (up to 90 days): Data may persist in encrypted operational backups for up to 90 days before being overwritten on the standard rotation.
- Purchase and consent records (7 years): Records of in-app purchases and your acceptance of our Terms and Privacy Policy are retained for 7 years for legal, tax, and audit compliance.
- Messages already delivered to recipients: Messages you've already sent and that have been delivered to another user remain in their conversations until they choose to delete them. We cannot recall messages from a recipient's account.
- Aggregated, anonymized analytics: Statistics that no longer identify you (for example, total daily active users) are retained indefinitely for business analysis.
